Surface preparation

In surface preparation, a surface is treated to provide a correspondingly optimal surface for further processing. With UHP, surfaces are cleaned, washed, removed and stripped, roughened and cleared.

For cleaning and washing, surfaces are gently blasted with low water pressure. Coarse, porous, and structured surfaces are cleaned thoroughly without changing the character of the surface.

Coatings are often surprisingly difficult to remove. This is caused by the subsurface and the type of coating. Paints and colours can change significantly over time due to external influences and the ageing process. In order to avoid damage to steel or concrete sub-surfaces during the removal of coatings, the ideal UHP processing method is with the hand lance or with suitable surface cleaners that do not require the use of chemical solvents or additives.

Roughened surfaces should mostly have a preferably uniform blasting result. This can be achieved well with hand lancing or with surface processing devices. Required bonding strengths and surface roughness are reliably achieved.

Subsurface removal is possible in all treatment depths. The requirements on the exposed surface, the treatment depth, and the accessibility of the object determine whether a mechanical or manual UHP application will be used.
